The Lost Boy

The Lost Boy is a autobiography written by Dave Pelzer.

This is a second book following up A Child Called “It” dealing with his abusisve mother and later placed in foster care. In this book David runs into a bar after running away from home, where he is caught by the staff who then calls the police. The authorities remove David from his mother and family then is later placed into a foster family. My favorite part of the book was when David went to trial and there it was announced for him to become ward of the court. Although he was sad to not be with his family, it all happened for the best. David deserved much more then what he was given, it was truly heartbreaking of the things he went through and I was glad that it had all came to an end.

The main character is thankful. I know this because when David arrived at his first foster home, he was thankful for everything. The delicious dinners Aunt Mary served him, a bed to sleep at night and the happiness his new home brought him. Along with his other 4 foster parents who all cared for him more than his own parents. Dave’s book was dedicated to many people who all helped save him. Harnold and Alice Turnbough gave David the unconditional love and care his parents never gave him, they were who David considered his parents.

I very much enjoyed this book because it is very detailed and puts into perspective what David went through as a young boy. The little things in life are what we should appreciate and not take for granted. This book is recommended because it changes the way you see things, I feel that now I will be more grateful for all I have. Sometimes we complain about little things that go wrong in life but when you are exposed to the outside world we realize that others go through much more. The theme of this book is self love and confidence. No matter what situation go through in life you should always believe in yourself. There may be times that you should be self-centered, although you don’t wish bad upon anyone else you also need to realize what is best for you. Just like David didn’t want to tell the truth about his mother and have her get into serious trouble, he had to realize that the life he was living was not what he wanted. You should always do what is best for you!
