The Outsiders Book Movie Comparison

There is many similarities throughout the novel and movie. Both had the scene at the drive-in where Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny meet the girls,Cherry and Marcia. Dally was bothering the girls, Johnny stuck out for them, that had a end resolution of Pony, Johnny, Cherry, and Marcia watching the movie together. Also when Pony and Johnny left to Windrixville due to Bob’s death, Sodapop gave Dally a letter to then give to Pony, Dally was the only one who knew where they were. Another similarity is that Johnny didn’t want to see his mom when he was in hospital. He was in the hospital because while saving the children at the church that was burning into flames timber fell on his back. Lastly Dally robbed the store to later have the police on him and get shot.

There is also many differences in the novel and movie. They were slightly different because in the novel it took up to a few chapters until they went to the drive-in, unlike the movie right off the bat they were there. In the beginning of the novel Darry was more present and introduced, but in the movie he didn’t show up or was talked about until the scene where he push Pony. To go along with that in the novel Darry smacked Pony but in the movie he pushed him down to the ground. Another difference is that in the novel when they got on the train to Jay Mountain it was a pretty long tough ride, in the movie they made it there very quick. When Dally robbed the store he called the gang to meet him in the lot, but in the movie he called the gang to meet him in the park.
Lastly in the novel Pony was assigned to write a theme for school, unlike in the movie this scene had not happened.

The book's message was nicely delivered because the actors put emotion into it all. As for the director did a great job bringing the book by S.E Hinton into real life. I do think the book was better because there was a lots of detail and emotion throughout the whole novel. Unlike in the movie it was all kinda quick and the actors could’ve used more facial expressions and get more into character. But I overall do think it was a great book and movie, I really did enjoy it!
