A Child Called “It” is a autobiography written by Dave Pelzer.

This book is about a little boy who is abused, starved, and beaten by his mother. He also has to play punishing games leaving him nearly dead. David uses his faith, lots of courage, and determination to survive his mother’s abuse. My favorite part of the book is when his teachers and nurse take interest in his life and what goes on at home. He was examinated daily with the school nurse to check on the bruises, marks, and scars his mother left him. Although he lied about the bruises all over his body the nurse knew they all came from his mom.

The main character David is courageous. I know this because he has the courage to make it through each day, and told himself he would survive. David didn’t cry he showed great courage and didn’t give his mother the satisfaction that she had won. Rather surviving meant digging through a garbage can, stealing kids lunch, or running to the store for food, he did it all.

I like the book because it shows the perseverance that a young boy has. We constantly complain about the little things but he really went through a lot and yet still had the dedication to fight. I would recommend this book to a friend, child abuse is very common in this world and its something we all have to be alert about. Lastly the lesson learned is to be grateful for all you have especially the little things, because what you may have others dream about.
